(My husband does not like being in photographs!  The above picture is of my friend Kim (on the left) and me (on the right) at "THE BIG HOUSE"!)

I knew I was destined to be a teacher when Santa Claus brought me the best present ever… a chalk board!  I used to “play school” with my brothers and sisters and eventually the children I babysat.

I was born in Detroit and moved to Northport, Michigan before I started kindergarten.  My father had enough of the city and decided that he was going to be a farmer.  He thought it was a great idea, but I didn't always think it was so wonderful.  It was very embarrassing as a high school student to be called to the office in order to leave school to chase  a herd of cows (who always knew exactly where the hole was in the fence).  Looking back on my early life as "a farmer",  I tell people now that I grew up on organic food before it became “trendy”.

I attended Northport Public Schools from kindergarten through graduation.  After graduation, I attended the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) where I graduated with a BA in Education.  I did my post-graduate study at Central Michigan
University (Fire Up Chips!) where I earned my Master’s Degree.

My teaching career began in Ann Arbor, Michigan in a middle school where I taught Language Arts.  After one year, I missed the water, and I moved back to Traverse City.  I taught  fourth, fifth, fifth/sixth, and sixth grade (not all at the same time!) at Sabin Elementary School until the school closed in 2005.  In the fall of 2005, I came to East where I have taught Language Arts and sixth grade, 6th grade AT, and seventh grade Mathematics.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I married my husband, Don,  and  we adopted our “children with fur”.   We have two Siamese cats, Culpepper and Esmerelda.

My brain is always busy!  I enjoy activities that challenge my busy brain, including numerous daily crossword puzzles, sudoko, and ken ken.  I also enjoy reading a good book, cooking great food, completing jigsaw puzzles, and exploring the beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  I also have a "slight addiction" to certain reality shows, especially Survivor, The Amazing Race, Masterchef Junior, and Masterchef.

I am very excited about this school year!  We have a great team of teachers working together to make this the best year possible for your child!
